What is Modern Productivity?

Modern Productivity is a holistic approach to work management that emphasises valuable outcomes over activity, using a combination of tools, techniques, and mindset focused on employee well-being and value. Key components include using technology in a strategic and targeted manner to increase efficiency, breaking down large tasks into smaller, more manageable chunks, and stepping back to ensure that teams, processes, and systems are structured correctly. It involves consistent delivery at a sustainable pace, managing energy and attention, and foresting a team culture where collaboration and trust are more heavily rewarded than individual contributions.

Our Mission

At Modern Productivity, our mission is to transform the operations of businesses and the digital lives of individuals. We believe that outdated processes, poorly developed or implemented systems, disconnected data, and digital clutter are the true barriers to growth and peace of mind. Our aim is to banish the busy-work and leverage the latest technology and thought leadership to bring absolute clarity, control, and efficiency to your business or personal life. We focus on two main areas of transformation.

1. Business Operations & Transformation (Virtual COO Team)

For businesses looking to scale without the chaos, we act as your Virtual or Part-Time COO Team. Our experts dive deep into your company’s operational backbone to stop data duplication, silence spreadsheets, and automate tedious administration. We leverage modern tooling and strategic oversight to implement robust systems (CRM, Finance, HR, ERP) and processes that deliver value from day one. The result? Clarity and control over your business, leading to an extremely high ROI and a foundational system that brings you peace of mind.

2. Personal Cloud Landscape (Taming the Digital Spaghetti)

Beyond the business, we offer a dedicated, personalised service to conquer individual digital clutter. Do you have countless accounts, calendars, contacts, and photos scattered across various clouds and devices? We call it Digital Spaghetti. We hand-hold you through the process of consolidation, bringing your entire digital landscape from utter confusion to perfect sync. We restore order, privacy, and simplicity to your personal data, giving you back control over your digital life.

What we believe

“Build systems and process that work without you. Document them well. Train your replacement. The more replaceable you make yourself, the more valuable you become. It’s counterintuitive but it works” – Scott Clary

Deeply ingrained into our work ethic is the core belief that we should aim to make ourselves redundant. No one wants to be dependent on a third party for an extended period of time, and you didn’t engage us with the idea that we would be there forever. Whether that’s automating our jobs away, or building, training, and embedding processes deeply into your business so they work long after we leave, you will always find us trying to make things more efficient – even at our own expense.

We believe in and work to the principles of the data centric manifesto – knowing that a single golden source of data removes countless points of inertia and helps unlock incredible opportunities for automation and efficiency. Nothing makes us happier than saying goodbye to human error, duplicate effort, and user frustration.

We believe that a small minority of exceptional individuals make the biggest impact to your business, and that finding, motivating, and retaining these people is one of the most crucial elements in your success.

“The idea that employees should be grateful for a pay packet and holiday is dead. Most people want to work for more than just money. They want to believe in what they do and feel like they are part of something exciting, use incredible tools, and work with processes and teammates that support them to do great work. Retaining these individuals is really hard – they are highly picky and if the the work culture, the systems, or processes don’t work well they will leave and go somewhere else, so getting these things right is crucial”.

It’s a bit of a cliché saying but there is a reason for it. With the right culture you unlock:

  • Self Organising & Self Managing Teams – teams that set their own tasks, deadlines, and self-learn or research any gaps in skills or knowledge. They pass work efficiently between themselves using modern work management software, continuous improvement is part of their DNA, and require very light touch management.
  • Pragmatism > Bureaucracy & Politics – where individuals value delivering work over talking about it (death by meetings anybody?) and are prepared to challenge the status quo if its not serving the team. Strong corporate governance is valued, but providing it doesn’t get in the way of great people doing amazing work – as its understood only by doing do you really uncover things and get a true feedback loop.
  • Embedding a Growth Mindset – ensuring individuals are constantly acquiring knowledge and keeping skills sharp. Technology and thought leadership are constantly evolving, and the organisations that can quickly synthesise and deploy new thinking and ways of working will be the most successful.

What makes us different

That means the same care, the same passion, the same agonising over certain decisions – for example – we would never recommend spending money we wouldn’t spend ourselves. We consider it a privilege that you trust us, and therefore really care about the individual success of every client who brings us on board to help solve their problems.
We like to build and fix things properly. We dig and dig until we find the real root cause in systems, people, and processes. More often than not it turns out that to solve problem A correctly for the long term, the thankless hidden problems of D, C, and B need to be fixed as well. We aren’t interested in half-baked solutions or tactical fixes with sticky tape and string (and if that’s what you need please hire someone else!). We like to flush out the deep issues people don’t know about, and get them fixed for good.
The big four are astronomically expensive and deliver poor value for money.

“We are grossly overpaid for what little we deliver” – ex PWC employee.

  • The quality of assigned consultants is a lottery – you may get an expert or a recent university graduate.
  • Their knowledge is often limited to what they have implemented for other clients which they then retrofit or white label to you or your organisation – rather than objectively looking at market best practice.
  • They have large unwieldy back offices that increase their cost base – which is then passed on to you.
  • They have no skin in the game. Writing strategy papers which tell you what to do and walking away is easy. Delivering, implementing, executing, and embedding that work is hard.
While we take what we do very seriously, we don’t take ourselves too seriously – and like to work with clients who are the same. Given most of us spend a large part of our lives in the workplace – we try to have fun where possible and appropriate.
